When it comes to the Surf family, give me the dad!

Even God Himself would surf with the Devil if the waves were big enough…Dorian "Doc" Paskowitz could have been the devil himself, ferrying his clan of nine kids from beach to beach in his 8 square-metre caravan. Graduating from Stanford, California with a promising political career in Hawaii, this doctor left it all behind in 1956 after two divorces, and dedicated the rest of his life to his passion: surfing.

Dorian Paskowitz first surfed when he was 9 years old in the Gulf of Mexico, before importing this sport in Tel Aviv in 1956, eventually creating the “Paskowitz Surf Camp” in 1972 on San Onofre Beach, California. He raised his children "at the mercy of the winds, poor, but wealthy in nature,” as he says, thanks to his wife Juliette, his soul-mate, who left everything to follow him.

This nature lover, a true guru, was still surfing at 88 years old. He passed away in his 93rd year in 2014, survived by his children, some of whom hold on to the hard, bitter memory of their wild education devoid of social concern. The Doc refused to watch the documentary "Surfwise" dedicated to his life in 2009. He would rather go on surfing, daydreaming of being "devoured by a shark, the most beautiful of deaths" as he said…

Surfin’ to madness...
